About Us

Our History

"What has made us a great firm in the past will make us great in the future. Our reputation is what we are known for now." -Dan May, President and CEO

With over 51 years in the financial services industry, AdvisorNet Insurance can look back on several significant incarnations. Founded in 1959 as Strommen & Associates by Clair Strommen, we began with just 5 agents, one staff person and we were a commission-based insurance company.
Through the 60s and 70s we added offices in Duluth, Minnesota and western Wisconsin. By 1980, ownership was assumed by Dan W. Anderson, Wayne C. Swenson and Robert Strommen. The firm added brokerage services and opened an office in Fargo. In 1986 when Robert Strommen left the firm, we changed our name to Swenson Anderson Associates, Inc.
Through the 80s and 90s Swenson Anderson continued to add associates and expand our services into employee benefits as well as back-office support for our advisors. We were a charter recipient of the Master Agency Award (awarded by GAMA International), and have continued to receive this “Top 100 Agency” recognition since the award’s inception in 1983. When Dan May joined the ownership team in 1997, our advisor count had exceeded 90, and included 45 staff members.
For the last 20 years, our company has become the trusted resource for the independent financial advisor, offering our high level of knowledge and operational support to allow advisors to flourish in their practices. We provide an unsurpassed menu of financial products and services for our advisors to offer to their clients including: Investments, life, health, accident insurance, employee benefits, fee based planning, mortgage, and property & casualty insurance.
In 2007, we changed our ownership structure and our name to reflect our reason for being. The name AdvisorNet Financial simply recognizes who we are as the home of the Interdependent Financial Advisor®. Our firm will continue to foster close relationships with advisors while creating a community that helps any independent financial advisor navigate the challenges and evolution of our industry.
